Next Rivenhall Parish Council Meeting: 7pm on Tuesday 10th December at the Rivenhall Village Hall.
About Us
Rivenhall Parish Council is part of the three tiers of Local Government which comprises Parish, District and County Councils. Seven councillors are elected every four years. Councillors are unpaid but have the services of a part-time, paid Clerk to the Council. The council has the powers to raise income by means of a precept levied on households in the parish and this is collected together with Council Tax by Braintree District Council. The Council precept and expenditure is, of course, monitored annually by an independent auditor.
Rivenhall Parish comprises two main settlements, Rivenhall and Rivenhall End, which has a major railway line (Norwich to London Liverpool Street) and trunk road (A12) cutting directly through it. It has an agricultural landscape, mostly arable land with areas of woodland and small areas of pasture; there is industrial development along the western boundary and a WW2 airfield to the north which is threatened by further industrial development associated with waste recycling and incineration.

The parish council owns no land and does not have responsibility for playing fields, burial grounds or allotments but we are very active in endeavouring to maintain the rural aspects of village life and work closely with local authorities and agencies to do so. A Village Design Statement was produced in 2003/2004, along with a Parish Plan, underpinning all Parish Council observations upon local planning, services, facilities and amenities available for parishioners. In addition, we organise contractual and volunteer work consisting of grass cutting, litter picking together with the provision and maintenance of public seating, dog bins and planned improvements by planting flowers, trees and shrubs.
There has been significant housing development into Rivenhall parish and within neighbouring parishes in recent years and a new Local Plan is being developed by Braintree District Council which will allocate more land for development in the district to the year 2041. The parish council is committed to managing change, not preventing it, whilst at the same seeking to retain the rural balance of the parish.
