About us
Rivenhall Parish Council (seven elected members) serves a predominately Rural Parish in the heart of Essex that consists of approximately 550 houses, several farms and a wide selection of local businesses. The Parish lies just two miles from the nearest main shopping centre of Witham. It has a village shop, St Mary’s Church, and Rivenhall Village Hall which is available for hire for parties and other functions, clubs and societies, and meetings and exhibitions for local businesses.
Rivenhall Parish comprises two main settlements, Rivenhall and Rivenhall End, which has a major railway line (Norwich to London Liverpool Street) and trunk road (A12) cutting directly through it. It has an agricultural landscape, mostly arable land with areas of woodland and small areas of pasture; there is industrial development along the western boundary and a WW2 airfield to the north which is threatened by further industrial development associated with waste recycling and incineration.
The Parish Council meets on the first Tuesday of every month at either Rivenhall Village Hall or Henry Dixon Hall, and we welcome the attendance and contributions of all those who are interested in local affairs and have an opinion on how local issues are dealt with throughout the Parish. Agenda notices together with the draft Minutes of the previous month’s meeting are displayed on the Parish Council’s notice boards a week in advance of the next meeting, as well as here on our website.
We have no responsibility for playing fields, burial grounds or allotments but we are very active in endeavouring to maintain the rural aspects of village life. A Village Design Statement was produced in 2003/2004, along with a Parish Plan, underpinning all Parish Council observations upon local planning, services, facilities and amenities available for parishioners. Managing change, not preventing it. In addition, we organise contractual and volunteer work consisting of grass cutting, litter picking together with the provision and maintenance of public seating, dog bins and the planned landscape gardening of flowers, trees and shrubs.
